Schoolboy error - didn't note down MCOL customer number

Hi I'm dealing with another charge from DCBL Legal (dating back to January 2022) - but stupidly (as I was working and trying to complete the Acknowledgement of Claim and Defence at the same time) I failed to make a note of my MCOL customer number.

Today I've gone to complete the defence as needs to be done by 11th May and couldn't get online. So I called the CCBC to see it they could give me it. After a long wait they guy said they don't have access to the MCOL customer numbers but he could email the defence form to fill in instead.

I just wanted to know - If I emailed the case instead of filling in the form would that be accepted and be a better way of doing it?

Did you bin the claim form then? Because you should have everything you need.

Not sure there is a 'customer number' but there is a Govt Gateway customer ID which was emailed to you. And you have the password.

    Don't use a form.

Do not do what the staff said. They often also give out the wrong email address, sometimes even a broken old CCBC one!

Just create a word doc, pop the defence in, add the usual headers (both parties - NOT THE LAW FIRM - and the claim number) and the word DEFENCE at the top.

Statement of truth at the bottom (not the short one that AI suggests, see the second post of the NEWBIES thread). Add your signature and date.

    Save as a PDF.

Send that as an attachment to an email marked URGENT DEFENCE and the claim number in the subject line, and send it to the Claimresponses CNBC email we already tell you about in the Template Defence thread.

I have the letter still. But when I enter the claim number into the gateway defence it says incorrect.

I also have the gateway number - but not the password - but they just email a code and I can get on using that. But it directs me to the MCOL page.

I know I must be doing something wrong. So apologies. I'll do as coupon-mad has said.

Thank you both for your help.

Are you typing a O instead of numerical 0 when putting in the claim number?

    No I'm doing 0.

I do find it difficult to negotiate the gateway/mcol etc and I wouldn't say I'm a technophobe.

I've now asked for a government gateway password reset - and I've asked requested twice - still not had the link.

I feel like they make it difficult on purpose!
