hoping someone can help me whilst I await call backs from various insurance companies,

living in guernsey, car on guernsey plates, brought over Sep 2024. Moving back to the uk arrival around 14th June and will reregister etc, have already informed hmrc.

Leaving guernsey 14th May and I told my car insurance company here, that I was off round Europe for 3/4 weeks before I register in uk.

They have now told me they will not insure me as I don’t live in guernsey when I’m travelling. I can’t get uk plates on until I’m in the uk and I need a months inruance from someone on my guernsey plates which is proving tricky if I am not resident here anymore.

Any ideas!L thoughts, experiences and ideas welcome

thanks

You need an address to get insurance.

I believe there is a grace period where a personal importer of a car can drive an unregistered-in-the-UK from port to home, while the process of importing and registering takes its course. I don't know the length, or if there's any restrictions eg it says you must go pretty much directly from port to home.

I don't think the system is at all designed or intended to accommodate a month long trip around Europe in the car.
