But what if you can't be contacted? In one of the aforementioned cases the policyholder was in a coma at the time of their renewal, and indeed still was on the date of the fire that destroyed their property. Even the best broker can't speak to an unconscious policyholder.

Then they will cancel the policy. It's the risk I take when I use that broker. We keep a note on
a calendar when items are due, but in the case of a massive fire and a coma then having my
car towed would be a minor issue compared to everything else.
