I used a public street charger with my EV today...

It doesn't seem to leak out once it is in the tank, the leak must be in the pipework under the bonnet, it should be easy enough to spot though if it really is that big 😉

Put a bowl underneath and see if you can catch the leak. Just make sure it’s not a metal bowl 😉
Joking aside, a family member had a new Dacia (a Duster) several years ago. It was a horrible thing, with bits randomly falling off regularly. I’m guessing they’ve improved the build quality since then.

I don't think so tbh.
This one is Chinese built, so cosmetically everything that you can actually see and touch when standing alongside or sitting in it seems pretty good in terms of fit & finish.
However, get underneath and it is a very different story…… I don't hold out much hope for long term survival through British Winters 😯

I put in 9.83 kWh, which cost an incredible £5.87!!! (Compared with £2.07 at home)
This higher cost is the thing that is putting off a lot of people who don't have a home charging option. Well that and whether there is a charger somewhere that you can use long enough without getting a "ticket" for overstaying.
Is there any way to know in advance if charger A has a better tariff than B? Near me you can use a charger in the parking lot of the library or the nearby Tesco. Is it like with nearby petrol stations where they will try to match prices?

There are apps for that. ZapMap is a popular one, or Octopus offer Electroverse (you don't have to be an Octopus Energy customer to use it). There are probably others but those are the ones I'm familiar with.
The apps can also tell you if the charger is in use by someone.

No, there can be big differences between adjacent charger networks. For example, not terribly far from me there's a fast food restaurant that's asking 85p, a retail park at 75p and a hotel at 64p.
(Those are all fast DC chargers; there are also slow AC chargers run by the council for 58p.)

59p kWh, is a bit on the high side for A/C charging. DC that would be in the cheaper end of costs. Also only just over breakeven between ICE & EV on a per mile cost.
No, you do not get charger operators matching prices. Even when in exactly the same location (Service station)
OP is paying a higher price at home as well. Although that is lower std rate than many @21p, when you can get EV tariff's much cheaper. I'm sub 7p kWh. But that is a different discussion 👍

I pay 21p at home because I don't have a smartmeter, (and I don't do enough miles to cancel out the phenomenal day rate that comes with Octopus Go.)
The price of public charging is pretty academic really, as I have no intention of ever using it except in an absolute emergency once I have used up my "free" (included in the price of the car) credit.

I agree on public charging. I only use it on holiday, so while it may cost more than a ICE, I'm still £££ in from home charging 👍
