Travel disruption cover for seperately booked accomodation
Booked flights and accomodation (non refundable) separately at the end of last year, well before the current crisis. Now with Martin warning that cancelled flights won't cover accomodation https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2026/04/middle-east-conflict-travel-insurance/
I have travel disruption cover on my travel insurance, similar to what the Lloyds Silver insurance offers. But like most travel insurance policies, they don't cover for direct or indirect losses due to war.
So say if my flights are cancelled weeks in advanced, and the airline won't reschedule me to flights within a similar timeframe, and I can't get alternative flights elsewhere, where does that leave me with regards to recovering costs of the lost accomodation?
My travel insurance says it'll cover cancellations and curtailment, its not crystal clear but if the airline gives a reason of 'extraordinary circumstances' or 'lack of aviation fuel' can that be implied that it's a result of the war, and hence not payout for any lost accomodation costs?
Lots of comments and misinformation on the video reel which I first saw on insta.

When are you travelling, and to where?
If cancelling flights, airlines' regulatory obligations are clear, so they are required to get you onto other flights, even if they're with other carriers - recent reports of schedule adjustments suggest that airlines are likely to prune flights where they have alternatives readily available, but at this stage it's all just speculation, so there's probably little value in hypothesising about potential scenarios if there's nothing that you can do about them in advance.

Malaga in late July. Yea its probably a just wait and see, but Martin did sound like an issue we'd rather address sooner (as he always bangs on about booking travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday).

But you said you already had the travel insurance, so what other action do you have in mind at this stage?

I was considering cancelling my travel insurance policy in favour of the ones suggested by MSE, but as I found my existing one has travel disruption cover already. But whether that will be enough who knows?

Have you established how much it would cost to do that? Regardless, I doubt that it would be particularly challenging for the airline to find an alternative flight to a popular destination like that, or are you flying from somewhere regional with relatively limited options?

It'd be a relatively small cost to switch. Flying out from London so plenty of options.
