Well, if they eat it and don't come back - that's a deterrent, right?

Anyway, as we're getting off the topic - I think some time ago it was advertised as magical compost ingredient etc. and for coffee shops easy way to reduce waste. It's brown and ground so looks like soil. Now I think the hype has worn off..

They wouldn't come back because they'd be dead. That's not a deterrent, that's murder. Thankfully, most cats are clever enough not to eat coffee grounds, but there are the exceptions to every rule.

Cocoa shell mulch used to be popular - until people realised that its chocolate smell made it attractive to dogs, with dreadful consequences.

My wife puts ours in her composter.

She has also mixed it with a little moisturiser to make an exfoliating face/body scrub!

There are a huge amount of plants that are toxic to animals but they do have to eat them first and they tend not to. I bet if you googled most plants in your garden you'll find they are toxic.

Use it in compost as a green, mix it with compost for as 2p says, a nitrogen boost, use it as a mulch if you feel comfortable doing that, or use it to build up a lasagna bed if you like. If there are any coffee bags, split them, they take an age to decompose.

They are mildly acidic and I use them around my blueberries and azaleas to good effect. I think the smell is offputting to cats as I havent had cats in my garden since I started using them, nor the daily pile of cat mess which is an extra bonus
