  • Thank you all for your replies. Out of interest, I rang Barclay's to see how the land lay. They said to go in with photo ID and a utility bill in order to open a 'cash card account' .They said they would Credit Check me. Is that necessary? What happens if you fail the CC? (i shouldn't cos i haven't missed an y payments yet...)

In the beginning, there was nothing.
The Lord said "Let there be light".
There was still nothing, but you could see it.
  • I opened a Barclays basic cash card account a few days after going BR and had no problems, i don't know if they credit check you or not but i still got an account.
As you've said you shouldn't fail the check anyway, but i must have failed with a capital F yet got the account.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

They definitely accept bankrupts - hell they even have one working for them (me!). Don't know about the credit check but I've never heard of anyone being turned down for a Cash Card Account unless there was a problem with ID - they offered me the account and they were my biggest creditor. Wouldn't surprise me if the 'credit check' is like the Co-Op's 'reference check' - basically it's just a way of verifying your details.

The general advice seems to be, open a new account AFTER bankruptcy not before, as even a basic account may be frozen by the OR. Lots of people make arrangements to have wages etc. paid into a spouse or family member's account until BR then open a new account the day of BR.
