Acetone free polish remover is weirdly greasy, I'm not sure I'd use it on/near any electronics. Personally, although I have acetone free polish remover I much prefer using an acetone based remover.

Rubbing alcohol otherwise known as isopropyl alcohol is handy to have in. It doesn't attack plastics like acetone does. I used to use it for cleaning cassette and video player heads many moons ago.

I wouldn't have let any solvent get under the keys - I used cotton buds for the whisky (precious stuff), and would ditto for any other test.
Some solvents - nail-varnish remover - I wouldn't have considered trying at all, unless as a last resort, and even then only following a test on the side of the laptop.
Anyhoo, isn't the interweb wonderful?! Now't bad ever happens on there.

Isopropanol removes permanent marker, I have it for cleaning all sorts but use permanent marker on freezer container lids & storage boxes and use it daily.
