TapoTD21 Video doorbell
Hi, I have recently bought a TapoTD21 Video doorbell, but am having trouble with loading a micro memory card.
I bought a 512gb as recommended and got a Sony as I thought it was a good make, but I couldn't get it to format so I bought another one a Lenovo this time but am having the same problem.
I can't keep on buying them, how can I get one to work, I put the Lenovo one in my computer and formatted it to FAT32 as suggested on online but it still won't work although at one time I did get a smiley green sd card face and got my hopes up.
Any ideas please? The doorbell works and I can see it on my phone but I can't replay to see who was at the door or coming down the drive which is why I wanted one.
Thank you

I have the same TAPO doorbell, but with a 32GB memory card, recording on a loop. I get about 4 months of recording before it reloops. Are you using the Mobile App to set the doorbell up and format the memory card ?
It could be you have a faulty TAPO doorbell, try updating the firmware in settings and try again

Thanks, yes on my phone from the app maybe I need to get a different size sim but it said 512 mb so that’s what I got. The firmware is up to date.

Mine works with a 32GB fine.
(Lexar, Integral, Sandisk are fine)
Just inserted and it formatted automatically
Large 512GB cards ? They are a lot of fake ones about.
Just get a 32GB card from Amazon

My Tapo doorbell specifically told me not to format the card in a computer.
The instructions told me to put the card in the doorbell and then "initialise" it using the Tapo app.
There are literally shedloads of fake drives out there though, if any of the ones you bought were unusually cheap (Say less than about 80-90 for the 512, there is a 99% chance they will be fake.
I bought a 128 gig and it records 24-7 and I get about 6 days of continuous recording. If you just set it to record only when it detects movement, you will get months and months of use out of a 32gig card.

If you aren't sure if the card is legit or not, try running this on it.
This will fill the whole card with data, and then read it back to check it was written correctly. This spots the classic fake SD card issue of forcing far smaller cards to appear to be much larger than they actually are.

I did read that, but then I saw somewhere that you could, it had already failed in the doorbell so I just thought I would try it.

If the fixes suggested here don't work, try posting on the Tapo community forum, posters there are quite helpful - certainly concerning Tapo plugs.
