Liability for unexploded WW2 bomb
Hypothetical for me, but just watching the news from Plymouth and the risk of property damage from the bomb being detonated - would that come under the usual policy exclusion for damage "arising from war"? And if so is there any other avenue for compensation (assuming the Army haven't been negligent)? I'm guessing there was some WW2 government compensation scheme but not sure what is still live.

Go back and claim from the supplier - that would be the Luftwaffe😊

The War Damage Commission considered claims for damages caused during WWII to properties in the UK, it formally ended 1 Oct 1964, though there was a further 4 years that claims could be made but with the inland revenue dealing with them. No avenue left on that one.
The 2021 Exeter Bomb resulted in a Court of Appeal case with the university losing to their insurers. The court agreed the war exclusion applied whereas the Uni argued the unearthing of it was the proximal cause not the war itself.
In theory you could try and sue Germany but practically it isnt going to happen.
There have been attempts to sue the MOD arguing it was their actions that caused the damage rather than the war but at least the majority of those have failed on the basis the war was still seen as the real cause. Maybe if the MOD did mess up there could be a claim but then a bomb disposal expert who lives fast and does a slack job probably isnt in the job for long… or alive for long either.
Unless there are some ex gratis payments then generally it's your own problem to solve.

If you did find yourself without cover and needed to make good any damage caused I would recommend some Schwarmfinazierung in the country the problem orginated from.
