Parking fine issued to my wife. She thinks she paid and the fine seems to indicate ‘insufficient time’ rather than non payment (no evidence as paid cash). As there are only 3 hours or all day options I can only assume she was 7 mins over (? 10 mins grace period). Also, it was only received today and so is

22 days after incident too. Website seems to indicate an appeal would forefit discount fee. Any helpful suggestions as it’s £40 extra if left unpaid

There is no fee or fine or debt and our view - and Martin Lewis' view refected in the MSE Guide that he checked (linked at the top of the page) - is "so what?" about the discount bribe? You aren't paying, regardless, and there is no fair or impartial appeal with IPC firms.

This is covered in the NEWBIES thread. Nobody pays these invoices! The official MSE Guide to fighting private parking charges (linked at the top of the page) tells people NOT to pay unfair private PCNs and to ignore the debt threatograms.

Yes: ignore them.

Tell them/the debt crawlers if you move house but that's common sense and doesn't need us to say it (but I still say it because you would not believe the number of people who stupidly don't, then wonder why they missed defending an easy claim).

And read the MSE Guide as well.

We'll see you again later this year when DCB Legal send you a LBC or Claim Form (which is what you want, honestly). Please don't show us DR Plus or DCB Ltd letters.

crucial thing, as I understand it, is that this was issued 20 days after the incident rather than the required 14 days. doesn't matter when it was received. (though I'm impressed that it got to your house so quickly)

Not really crucial (yet) though.

It's an IPC firm, so no appeal works. Nobody pays. Nobody wastes their typing finger on Smart until a small claim arrives and then they use the bespoke defence by @Meltof in the Smart Parking Claim Defence Group Thread.

So does this also help in the appeal, in addition to the lack of failure to honour grace period? Sorry, it’s all quite a lot to take in over a potential £60 fine. I’ll make time to scroll through the MSE info, but do feel quite uneasy about follow up ‘threats’ (which I guess is their intention)

yes the threats are intentional. many people cave and they get their unearned pound of flesh. As Coupon_mad has said just hold strong until you get the court claim and then submit your info there. The fact that you are (or at least appear to be) willing to go to court to fight them means that they generally get the case cancelled at the last minute.
