EV Car insurance excess
I have been insured with Direct Line for many years for my ICE car.
I purchased a new EV this weekend and phoned Direct Line to change the insured car.
When I did, I was told the the compulsory excess was going up from £100 to £350, as that is there standard excess for EV cars now
Is it just Directi Line with such a high standard excess or are all cal companies doing this

For some reason Direct Line is incredibly expensive for EVs in general. I was with them with petrol for years but when I bought an EV their rates went through the roof.i have just renewed my insurance at start in May, £660 with Admiral, Direct line was £1,866. I know several others who have found the same, for some reason Direct Line just do not want to insure EVs.

That is probably your mistake. It is always worth shopping around come renewal time.

I'm with LV £250 excess & daughter with Aviva £250 excess. Both EV's

Why wouldn't you just put your details into a comparison engine every year, and shop around?
The brands aren't loyal to you - so why be loyal to them?
If any one insurer don't want to do a particular car/driver/location combo, for whatever reason, then they'll give a high quote. That certainly doesn't mean other insurers won't be interested in your business. Maybe that one has just got too many other policyholders in a similar risk profile, and want to hedge their bets a bit.0 -
Also DLG was bought by Aviva last year so it would be surprising if things dont change as they are integrated in and certain underwriting policies harmonised.

Aviva wouldn't even quote my EV, them owning DLG explains why DLG didn't show up in the comparison sites either.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
