An automatic car with around £3k budget?

Know absolutely diddly squat about automatics as never entertained them before in my life ever. However my mother is more than likely going to be in the situation where she needs to make the move from manual to automatic. Her budget is probably going to be in & about the given figure. Can't see it being much more at her…

If she's going to be struggling with mobility to the point she needs an auto, is it worth looking at something taller for her so that it's easier to get in and out of than a Focus?
That was my thinking however a relative of mine has something taller & apparently she finds it harder than the Focus. Not sure how but that was what I was told when I suggested it.
