Please help, I don’t know what to do.
Hello, I have a dilemma with a claims company called courmacs.
I received an update email from them about how my claim was progressing, which led to me to email back and ask why they were working on my behalf. I started the process myself using martins templates directly with the lenders back in 2025.
this company are saying I signed up, but I did not, they recently sent me an email saying if I showed evidence I started the process they would look into cancelling this down. I’ve showed evidence and they now say I would be liable under a DBA.
i did not sign up to use their services. This is stressing me out an incredible amount.
What can I do…

Courmacs don't just pluck details and email addresses out of thin air, they would get in trouble if they did.
It is most likely you have entered your details somewhere and have inadvertently agreed to them investigating your claim.0 -
They claim I did, but I did not. They gave an IP address for a town I do not live in…
I don’t want them acting on behalf and would never have signed up to use them!
i need advice , cause i didn’t ask them to act on my behalf.0 -
I get IP addresses from different locations too.
So, how do you think they have obtained your name and email address?0 -
I don’t and have never used a ppi claim firm, I’ve always used martins tips and templates.
The email I got from them providing me with an update was the first time I had even heard of the company. I sent back an email saying I did not sign up and didn’t want them acting on my behalf. I got an email saying it was cancelled but the updates continued and they won’t acknowledge the cancellation they sent me. They continue to move the goalposts when I email back. It’s stressing me out so much and I don’t think it’s fair I have to pay them anything at all. I started the process myself and got acknowledgments from the finance companies directly.
why would I go and appoint a claims firm after that?0 -
have you ever clicked on one of those free checkers that appear online and social media? Many of them have an agreement that signs you up.
How did they know your email address and vehicle details if you didn't supply them?

I would send them another email with a copy of their cancellation and state that if they continue to claim on your behalf or contact you in any way you will consider it harassment and will report them to the ombudsman. Or words to that affect.
As others have said they must have obtained your details from somewhere but if they have previously agreed that the contract is cancelled (presumably with no charge) then that should be the end of it.

Have you asked for proof that you signed up to them- a copy of the agreement with your signature.

Is this about car finance commission? You mention PPI but that's something different.
I guess it is a car finance commission question (as other respondents have assumed) - please clarify, and if so, we will move this to the section of the forum that is for car finance claim questions
