Faster payments and account details match error warning
I tried to pay a carpenter using Faster Payments. I typed in the account name, sort code and account number given on the invoice, and the bank warned that the name and account number didn't match.
Is it sensible to go ahead and make the payment anyway? Or perhaps just put a cheque in the post?
The invoice specifically said that this was NOT a business account. I tried using first initial and full first name, sending the payment from two different bank account, and always received a similar error message.

Call invoice issuer and ask ?

I would not pay. Check with the carpenter if the name or spelling is correct. Only approve if it passes the bank check

Is it not suggesting what the name actually is? It usually does this if its close.

The warning is there for a reason so phone the carpenter and check the details. If you are going to send a cheque then check that they would accept them first.

I usually send £1 then check it's been received.

Not 'usually' - depends on the (sending) bank.

It could be the account number that is wrong- a mistyped number or wrong account number given.
