Can I paint this bench
As the title states, I have found a small bench for my garden but would like to have a nice bright colour. Can I paint it? https://www.diy.com/departments/cartmel-2-seater-outdoor-wooden-garden-patio-bench/5056589129330_BQ.prd

Yes, but it may need weathering first.
I'm guessing it has an 'oiled' finish, so not much will want to adhere to that.
An all-in-one paint like Zinsser or Bedec should then work, but I suspect not right away.
Not sure if the oil content can be removed using a solvent and some grunt, but I wouldn't bother.
Can you live with it as it is for a year?

It looks like it is made from an attractive wood, IMO it would be a shame to paint it!
However, if you must, then you need to let it weather first as it is already treated with teak oil according to the description. I think you would need to let it sit out for a year, then sand it well. And before painting, try it on a an inconspicuous area as not all timber takes well to paint. Something like a Sadolin product would be better than what I would call paint. Go to somewhere like Paintshed and get their advice on what is suitable.

Yeah, I'd leave it to get knackered slightly then use Zinsser all coat.
Do look at Osmo's website though, some of their products may work from new.

Alas, what I had in mind, https://osmouk.com/product/country-colour/#suitability also needs weathering.

Yes, I'm a painter and decorator. You can paint it.

"shorea wood and finished with teak oil, "
The oil will have soaked some into the wood but it's a hardwood from the rainforest so it shouldn't be more than the surface. You could wash it with a cleaner to help it on its way but a winter should help and with another wash you could paint it. Try a bit underneath or the back to see if it will take.
I use cuprinol garden shades which has bright colours. It's water based so if it doesn't take well on the oil base will come off.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

It's the cuprinol garden shades I was thinking of using.

Thank you all. I shall build it when it arrives, leave it outside and paint it next year.

I think that's the best call. Leave it where it'll get hammered by both rain and sun :-)
