Scam email

Hi

I received an email from someone pertaining to be Virgin Media asking me to follow a link as my security was about to expire.
I read to the bottom and it was from Virjin Customer Service clearly not Virgin so I double checked the senders email it was “bureaux-noreply@ tropical-beachjewels.nl most definitely not Virgin so I forwarded it to the report@phishing.gov.uk and to Virgins own phishing@virginmedia02.co.uk I received the standard reply from both and all went in the bin. I woke this morning to a response from phishing virigins correct email telling me”don’t worry - it’s from us. You received a genuine email from Virgin Media 02”. It carry’s on to say that I am safe to carry on. I have tried to contact them regarding this and am unable to, so I thought if I report it on here that others may see it and hopefully it will stop someone clicking on it in error. I cannot believe that it has got through whatever checks they do as it clearly is a scam email. I am aware of how to check to keep myself as safe as possible but I know other people (my parents ) would struggle and after receiving a reply from Virgin would go ahead and I do not wish to think of the consequences. I feel that Virgin should take responsibility for their actions but trying to get in touch with them to tell them this is nearly impossible, when I used the bot I got told that the team was taking a well earned rest and to come back at 8am it was 8:15 when I was online.

So the specific problem here is that a phishing email sent to phishing@virginmedia02.co.uk has generated a reply from "phishing virigins correct email" (be good to know exactly what that address was - the real address) which confirmed that the fake email was real?

Any chance this was not just a follow-up phish and not from VMO2 at all?Not too hard to find about 6 VMO2 email addresses to report phishing/spam to.

Not too hard to find about 6 email addresses for VMO2 to report spam/phishing emails to (and a couple of numbers for SMS equivalents).

It's a bit harder to find out what they do with these reports.

It's messy because of the nature of virginmediaO2's online division between VM & O2 - the virginmediao2.co.uk domain is mostly about the joint promotion VOLT with links to the virginmedia.com and o2.co.uk sites.
