Garage rainwater drainpipe problem.
Hi,
I hopefully will describe our problem well enough for some advice :)
We have a detached garage at the end of our driveway. At the moment there is a gutter and drainpipe directed into a water butt, the water butt has a hosepipe attached for overflow that goes round the edge of the garden into a rainwater/surface water drain where the house is. It was set up like this when we purchased the house last year.
We are having the concrete replaced at the side of the garage and the landscaper suggested to put the drainpipe at the other end of the garage and install a gully under it and attach this to whatever is under the man hole in our garden. When he lifted the cover it looked like two half pipes.
We have no clue about whether this is possible as someone told us you cant direct rainwater in to pipes under the man hole cover. We are now a little confused as to if this is possible.
We don't want to be questioning the landscaper and appear that we don't think he is capable, should this be a viable option.
Many thanks in advance.

Where does the manhole discharge to?
Is it surface water drain or foul sewer?
Roof drainage should not discharge to foul sewer.

I am unsure where the manhole discharges to.
How do I find out if it is foul or surface please?
Thanks for any help.

Ask your water company.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
It’s usually pretty clear when you lift the manhole as the foul water drainage will smell unpleasant. The easiest way if you’re still unsure is to lift the cover and ask somebody to flush one of the toilets in the house. You’ll see water flowing through the chamber if it’s a foul water drain.
