15 months later after work done...

Hi. New on here 👋.

We had a big project in our home. It is the first time we have done any major changes so not sure what I should expect over time.

I understand that there is movement in a house overtime

1. Cracking and crumbling in bathroom grout in one place (everywhere else is fine). Bit surprised by this.

2. Gaps, cracks where window has been fitted.

My questions are is this to be expected or not and do I get the company back to touch up

My skill set does not give me neat sealant piping 🤣

Thank you.

If they are glass bricks, they will get hot/cold & as such will create cracks. If the incorrect material is used.

Isn't it normal to use silicon sealant where surfaces meet to avoid cracks?

I'd just get a handyman in to rake out the joints and apply flexible sealant. Make sure he knows you want a neat job though, I had a handyman do some resealing of my shower and I think he must've done it blinfold.

    • I’d agree with that. I DIY with a fugi tool but only because I’ve been disappointed with the finish of professionals in the past.

    • You can do it yourself but it’s knowing which sealant to use where and applying it skilfully.

    • Where two walls meet, the grout will always crack so best practice is to use sealant.

    • Equally windows will expand and contract with temperature so should be sealed, but if the surface next to the sealant is to be painted then an acrylic sealant is better.

    • A fugi tool is the best thing but it’s finding a tradesperson willing to do it properly. A tiler is your best bet.
