Expedia pending charges not removed after 30 days - help!

I'm at my wits end.

I made 2 attempts to book a trip with Expedia (BA flights and a hotel package), using my M&S Mastercard. Both times, Expedia's website said failed attempt, try again. I tried for the 3rd time with Amex, all went through, holiday booked. I have since been and come back from the holiday.

Meanwhile, the two failed attempts with Expedia have shown up as two pending charges to BA on my M&S card. It has reduced my available credit by over £2000 as a result.

Many attempts to get Expedia, M&S bank, and BA to do something about this are going nowhere. They all say either 'not our problem' or ' it'll drop off after 30 days'. 31 days later the pending amounts are still there, still reducing my available credit and no one will do anything about it. Anyone had this problem and what did you do?

If it's causing you a problem in the short term then perhaps talk to M&S about increasing your limit by £2k until the pending has cleared.

Travel & Tourism (inc car hire) Authorisations have a 32 day pending limit, as apposed to the normal 14 day auth limit.

  • Thanks for advice all - if anyone else comes across this problem, for information, the pending charges have dropped off now but it's been over a month with reduced credit available… so if it's your only credit card it could cause problems. And I shall be very wary in future of Expedia's website saying 'try again' !!

I had the exact same issue and spent about 3 hours talking to an Expedia Chatbot while I have several pending authorised British Airways flights. Very worrying. I am waiting and hoping they drop off. I went ahead and booked with Amex this morning and NO issue. I have taken screenshots of all my conversations and hope to not have to raise a dispute.
