I’ve tried everything with this tv/vcr combi and it’s not working. I’ve phoned a few places and they think the video ‘head’ has gone.

I’m looking at buying this from eBay, will it do the job?

Much easier if you post the model number than some blurry photos

I don't mean to sound harsh, but cheapest isn't really appropriate here. You need to consider what you want to do.

VHS has a resolution of about 300 x 576 for the luminance signal and 40x576 for the colour signal (assuming these are PAL tapes)

So that is the absolute best you will get out of this process. But you lose a bit in any conversion. With professional grade equipment, time base correctors and a display that does good upscaling then you might get a watchable result. If the tape is in excellent condition that is.

But with a second hand VCR and the sort of home conversion software/hardware you can buy the result is likely to be disappointing. (Plus many of these were designed for older computers and Windows, and won't have drivers for a modern PC)

If there are any tapes that hold very precious memories then I would pay a professional to do this. They will clean the tape if necessary, use professional equipment, and colour grade the output. Depending what needs doing this could be an afternoons work, so will cost a bit.

For any other tapes, the best option is to buy the best video machine you can and make sure it has a good output. For example an S-VHS machine.
