How much compensation am I entitled to from British Gas?
I have had many issues with British gas for the past 16 months, ongoing issues that have not been resolved. As a result I have incorrect markers on my creditfile, ruining my credit score. I am due to remortgage in September and this is causing me a considerable amount of stress, I have been rejected from credit cards too.
Despite BG acknowledging these markers are incorrect and their fault, they have not yet resolved them, despite telling me they have (there is no outstanding balance on the account, BG wiped that in their error). Last month I raised it with transunion to edit them and it was blocked by BG - saying the late payment markers were correct, despite BG telling me they were incorrect and they had fixed them. They could not find any late markers against my account. I had been promised many phonecalls, including one scheduled an hour ago which has not happened. They keep sending me a bill for someone else's account under my address, they escalated it to debt collectors despite me having numerous conversations with them that they have the wrong address. They then questioned whether it was BG trying to recall the debt despite it being stated on the letters with a customer reference number.
They have offered by £50 as compensation as full and final settlement but considering the issue has not been resolved, I have rejected it. I also think I should be due more, I have had to take AL to speak to them, not received phone calls despite being told they would, told problems have been fixed and they have not been. I cannot trust a single word they say, I feel they do not care about their customer in the slightest. I have been handed from pillar to post and disregarded when they got bored of me. There has been no transparency. I can't believe I left them as a customer early last year and I am still having to chase them because they simply do not care.
I would be grateful if anyone has any similar experiences or advice too. Thanks.

Take it to the Ombudsman

It does seem odd your credit file is being damaged when the account with BG was in another name. I would get a copy of your file from all 3 agencies and see what they have recorded. Not every bank will search on Transunion. It may be BG have corrected your file with Experian but not Transunion for example. Send an extract of the credit report showing errors to the Energy Ombudsman too.

Can't really add much more than is said above.
Get the full facts of your credit files from all the main credit agencies and raise an Ombudsman complaint.
Be clear in the complaint with timelines and factual applications for mortgages that have been rejected, then state the financials correctly of what a mortgage you can get with this mark on your credit file and the difference if you did not have the mark on your file.
Keep emotion out of it just be factual

Try the Ombudsman. I've been awarded £450 for British Gas sending me bills that aren't mine over several years and involving debt collectors. But.. I haven't actually received it.
