Well that was a short drop in prices...

I would say they are in the best position to know how much energy their IOG customers use vs their other customers…
It doesn't mean that all of them do of course…

My off peak usage is less than peak usage (low anyway), even with 2 cars to charge. Although not high mileage users.
Looking at last months figures, I would be paying a extra £10.

struggling to understand why they think an IOG customer would use more than double a standard customer
Presumably, Octopus have looked at their customer database and can tell that IOG customers do indeed, on average, use more than twice the electricity of "standard" customers.

Agreed, it really isn't hard to imagine, I expect we will use around 17,000kWh on IOG this year…
2 x EV, heat-pump etc. all add up, but combined with solar export and the vast majority of the consumption at 3.99p/kWh (fixed for 12 months) I'll be paying about £1 a day and half of that is the standing charge.
Last year I paid more than twice that just for gas consumption, this year no more gas, got to love what you can enable when you begin with a smart meter…

I still think of myself as a fairly light user of electricity but last year we used almost 5400lWh, which is literally double the Ofgem TDCV for a median dual-fuel home.
So yes, I too can believe Octopus when they say this.
