Help me choose travel insurance

  • Nationwide travel insurance has restrictive age cut off (70) , with no option for additional premium to cover ages.

Most packaged accounts travel insurance does not cover over 70s..

Myself and spouse both had the Nationwide insurance for many years until they refused renewal because of age. We did both have separate medical claims over the years, and service was very good

We have been with Avanti for many years but have yet to need a claim (thankfully)

    Regards

Nationwide’s packaged account travel insurance has NO upper age limit. As 76 & 79 year olds with pre existing medical conditions, we’ve been insured through them for many years.
Now underwritten by Aviva, was previously UK Insurance who imposed an additional charge for over 65s.

  • Thanks for the correction and apologies for error. Upon checking, we were refused cover by Nationwide (UK insurance)when I reached 65 as they would no longer cover my pre exist. Research then showed most other packaged accounts stopped at 70.

We are both in eighties with extensive pre exist and Avanti provide comprehensive cover at an affordable price ( ie we don't need to remortgage). Hopefully we won't ever need to claim.

Nationwide changed their age restriction condition as of 1st May 2024 when they switched to Aviva.

But even prior to the change to Aviva, Nationwide did not have an age cut off of 70, which is what Easyjet77 previously said.

What I found interesting (and very fair I thought) is that you can check whether you're eligible for the travel insurance before deciding whether to take out the Nationwide account.
