Help being self employed

Partner gone self employed, but has turned some work down. There is not enough he can take someone on.
Also when it comes to other work he has to refuse on the grounds of machinery.
Can do really well, but in catch 22.
He is doing something wrong and love someone he could talk to in how to go forward.
All the work has been put forward only by mouth, no advertising at all, could'nt go down this road Due to not knowing where he is going wrong.
Please do not suggest going to banks for the advise, because they just put forward what is best for them.
Thank you

Other MSEs who have recently gone self employed or started their own business speak well of their local business link adviser. DTi rather than the bank, so they have no financial interest except the hope you'll earn enough to pay more tax ;D
