Recommendations for account to replace Tesco Clubcard Pay+ please
Hi all,
As the above is sadly closing on the 26th April I need to find a suitable replacement. It was a perfect account for the purpose, you could only spend the amount in there and got Clubcard points for all spending.
So ultimately looking for a similar new account, with a debit card where money can be added weekly to use for shopping so would need a debit card and it can't go below £0.
I liked the new Paypal reward scheme but I would be using my Paypal account which I use for different things and any purchases over the available balance would then take the money out of my personal account which I don't want. I also considered the Chase account.
I like the idea of something that has some sort of reward scheme, doesn't need direct debits etc. setting up. I don't know if I can avoid credit checks etc. if it's somewhere I don't currently bank with.
Can anyone recommend anything that might work much the same as the Tesco account and is ideally rewarding on purchases as well?
Many thanks

You mentioned Chase, surely thats perfect, no credit check if no overdraft and you would get 1% back on all Tesco and other supermarket spend.

Thanks, yes Chase did seem like a good candidate definitely if credit check not needed if no overdraft. I hadn't looked into it much yet as one think I'm a bit cautious of is having too many bank accounts (already with about 5 for savings and all sorts).
That might do the job, I'll have a look at that now.
Basically I would give the other person the card to spend the balance in there as needed and they could also see the balance via open banking too to see how much is left in there.

I wouldnt be telling any bank you are giving your debit card to someone else to use, but thats on you.

Existing thread here
No idea if letting another person use your Clubcard Pay+ card for spending was against Tesco Bank's terms but it certainly is against Chase's.

It's ok, it's when we go food shopping together so buying food for both of us. It prevents accidental misuse as the money is allocated for shopping mainly etc. It's actually for my other half, she isn't as strict with spending as me so we don't have a combined bank account as I would probably be homeless.
The reason it remained in my name is because I had a savings account with them which is just for me and we like to keep our finances separate apart from this one which was set up just for us to pool out money for the shopping. It was easy as she could see the balance via open banking and if needed could use the card but wouldn't have access to the savings as such.
If we had a new account that neither of us are already with we can open that as a joint account then.

Thanks for the link, sorry wasn't aware of that thread already ongoing.

Some options at
Starling or Santander are probably the most suitable depending on your needs.

Excellent, thanks. Will have a look at those.

Why don't you do what we do, which is to have a separate joint account for groceries - or do you wish to have no financial link with your wife at all?

I think we might do that yes, thanks. Originally it was created as a shared account as such purely for the shopping where we both put money in as such. Will probably get a joint account I think as it would make more sense.
