Seeking a trustworthy, affordable accountant – London preferred but UK-wide fine

Hi all — I've been a member of this forum for over a decade and have always found it genuinely useful, so I hope you'll forgive me for asking here directly.

I'm looking for a reliable, affordable accountant. I run a one business which I am looking turn into a limited company and have been self-employed for over 20 years, but I'll be honest — the accounting side of things has never been my strong suit, and I want to make sure I'm properly looked after going forward.

Ideally I'd love someone London-based, as I'd like to actually meet my accountant in person at least once — something I've never managed to do. That said, I'm happy with anyone UK-wide; a video call would work just fine for that initial meeting.

What matters most to me is that they're both affordable and ethical. I tend to stay with the same accountant for a long time once I find someone I trust, so I'm hoping to build a proper working relationship rather than just hand things off to someone faceless.

If you're an accountant looking for new clients — or you can recommend someone you've had a good experience with — please do PM me. I'd rather not go into specifics publicly, but I'm happy to share exactly what I need via message, along with a rough idea of my situation so you can give me an honest idea of your rates.

Thanks in advance.

Can you ask local acquaintances for recommendations? Or a local business association?

It's fine. I don't know many people. I have an online business. I thought I would just check. If it's not allowed then I am fine with it. Thanks

What sort of business are you in? Some accountants specialise in retail, contractors or construction industry etc.

We've used https://www.gnaccounts.com for years, not the cheapest but good value for us, they tend to recommend playing things safe rather than being right up against the wire.

The only thing you might not like is that almost all advice is verbal, even if you email them they will phone you back. Based in Wimbledon so hit your London requirement, websites says you can do face to face but after 16 years with them have never met them in person. Were recommended to me by another contractor

I would go with recommendations, but if this is not possible look for local accountants. Many will offer a free initial appointment, so I would go along to a few few to discuss what you require and their prices to see who you would feel confident using.
