eBay feedback inconsistency

Why do some purchases ask for a rating on "did this arrive on time" and "seller communication" whereas others don't?

I've just gone through various purchases putting in appropriate feedback. Some asked these questions but I've bought quite a lot of car parts from a business seller & I wasn't asked this question on any of their items.

Which was a bit annoying because while I found their pricing to be decent, their communication is poor, as is the arrival time.

I don't know if the second one is out of their hands or not so I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt but I've needed answers to questions & they either don't reply or take ages, so I've had to ask elsewhere, get the answer & buy from them because they're cheaper. Bit cheeky I know but money's money.

I don't think sellers get to choose the questions (I certainly didn't).

I think eBay don't ask about delivery if they eBay were aware / responsible for it (simple delivery / GSP) as they know when the item arrived, and they don't ask about postage charges if free postage was offered.

Perhaps if no messages were send following the purchase, they omit the communications quesions too?

It may also depend if it was a business or private seller?

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
  • Automated 5 star ratings are left for the seller on your behalf for postage if the tracking shows it was delivered on time, and for communication if no messages are exchanged. It's possible the system isn't counting messages sent before you purchase, or messages sent on a different item listing - I'm not entirely clear on that. I do know it isn't something the seller can control, it's automated.

Regarding the delivery being slow, ebay's estimated delivery date isn't a deadline, it's an estimate and it's frequently wildly inaccurate. To give you an example I've had bulky furniture listed with a dispatch time of 10 working days and delivery time of 5 working days, which to anyone with common sense would mean delivery could take up to 3 weeks - and delivery has shown buyers an estimated delivery time of 4 days total. I expect something similar is what is happening there.

as a business seller i receive feedback on approx 40% of sales and it is going down all the time

when i first started in ebay 25 years ago it was nearly 100%

my feedback is left automaticaly on purchases and i leave feedback on about 99 per cent of purchases

i think once or twice i had questions pop up when i purchased something about leaving feedback but it was a long time ago

i buy about 10 items a week but nearly all from business sellers with 6 to 7 digit feedback and never have any

    questions asked of me

I think people are weary of feedback, everything I do or buy now requests feedback, it’s getting to be a nuisance .

Agreed. I was just talking about this the other day.

Guy from Evri knocked at the door with a parcel, transaction took literally 3 words and 5 seconds. As soon as he left I got both a text and e-mail asking for feedback.

The e-mail looked like a tick box, but it was actually a hyperlink to their webpage.

Once the webpage opened it asked for the recipients postcode and a date (which I'm sure they could have autofilled), but then after entering that, it took me to a page that wanted me to register just to give them feedback that wouldn't benefit anyone but Evri.

I just cancelled out after that, how much spare time do they think people have? 🤨

Yep. I almost always skip these kinds of feedback because they're a nuisance.

Absolutely nothing wrong with 2 questions:

    1. Rate your experience out of 10
    2. Is there anything you'd like to add? Stick it in this box if you want to.

    Job done. Hit submit.

I can't be bothered faffing with page after page of stupid questions breaking the experience down in to a million little pieces. Did you like the mans shoes, was his tie straight, did he appear clean.

    DON'T CARE!

I had my eBay delivery from Evri today.

I ordered 2 weeks ago and it the tracking said delivery due 3-4 days but never turned up. Tracking stayed the same and then said parcel sent to wrong depot.

Contacted seller a week after posting and they said I need to be patient and it will turn up.

Today I was doing work on my car and Evri person has the parcel and I mentioned lateness and he showed me the tracking and it was in the system Monday ( the day I contacted seller) and not 2 weeks ago

I have gone to leave feedback and all I get is 3 boxes positive, neutral and negative. When I press neutral or negative nothing happens but press positive a green tick goes in the box.

So I get a not good service from a seller but I can't express that on their feedback page.

Sorry I have just seen at the bottom of eBay page that I have to wait a week to leave negative or neutral feedback.

Tell them you threw the feedback over a random neighbour's fence.

Oh yeah then there's that one too. I think I mentioned it some time ago where it was like an item review & not a seller feedback thing.

    Here's a farce for you though…

I contacted eBay about it, said I wanted to leave negative review for the seller but could only leave an item review. I can't remember now but somehow we got round it. I ran my feedback by them (because I'd had negative feedback of mine removed in the past & told eBay this is why I was running this feedback by them) - eBay told me that the feedback was ok to be left so I did.

24 hours later it had been removed.

The eBay system is a joke. Unfortunately it's a necessary evil at times.
