Jet Fuel Shortages & Travel Insurance
I don’t think there’s another post about this specific to my question, but please forgive first time poster.
I have a trip booked in the summer with flights, accommodation and car hire all booked individually. Looking at the current oil situation, the projections suggest that there will be a jet fuel shortage in the months to come.
I was hoping to protect myself and others on the trip using travel insurance in case Ryanair have to cancel the flights and there are no good alternatives. It was not a cheap holiday.
However, my basic research suggests that many of the usual travel insurance policies have a get out based around force majeure events/Acts of God. If there are fuel shortages arising out of the Iran conflict, it would seem that we might be back with a repeat of the Iceland volcano eruption situation where lots of folks lost their holidays and the insurance companies backed out due to the disruption (or Covid and other past disruptions that are “non-standard”).
Does anyone have any insight on this? Are there some travel insurance providers who are more likely to honour claims of this nature?
Thanks all!

I think you're right that insurers are unlikely to pay out, so you'd be left with trying to enforce your legal rights to alternative flights - is there competition on your route?

You could argue Trump is only pretending to be Jesus so that is not an Act of God. Just his son.

Sadly not. Part of the cheap flights cartel, sadly. I will check to make sure I know my options nearer the time at least. Thanks!

You'd need to check with your individual insurer regarding their position on their belief in the Holy Trinity.

Unfortunately, most, if not all travel insurance excludes act of war as a cause , which is the cause of shortage.
Having booked individually despite cancellation of your flight the hotel and car hire may still be available so you not be able to claim for them.0 -
The reason such things aren't typically insured risks is because they're going to affect everyone at the same time - realistically the insurers are then going to have trouble finding the money.
