Credit card refund on closed account - help!
I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm coming up against a brick wall.
To cut a long story short: I booked a villa through Expedia for later this year. It has been cancelled by Expedia as there has been an apparent breakdown in communication between them villa owners. Full refund issued.
The problem that I have, is that I booked it using a credit card last September which I have since paid off. Expedia have said that they can only issue the refund back to the original payment method and that I would have to contact the bank to get them to release the funds to me.
The credit card was with the bank where my current account is, so I thought it wouldn't be an issue.
I've woken up to an email this morning from the Expedia, saying that the bank have let them know that they have processed the refund.
The bank are telling me that it is nothing to do with them as they can't accept refunds onto a closed account (they insist that it is a payment, despite it clearly being something that I have paid for and am being refunded).
I'm currently out of pocket by almost £1k, which I really cannot afford.
Can anyone provide any advice on what I can do to get my money back?

It should have bounced back to Expedia. They just need someone in the finance team to trace the payment in their internal accounts.

But they're telling me that the bank have accepted and processed the refund.

Ring bank & ask them.
If bank have accecpted the refund, then it will have reopened the closed account. Quite possible. You would have to get them to transfer to your bank account. They will not do it automaticly.

I've been on to the bank all morning. They say it hasn't been received and that I need to contact Expedia.

It will have gone into a suspense account and got stuck, raise a complaint with the bank.

That's what I was thinking. I'll give it a few days and I'll try that.

You neeed to get passed front line sstaff who will have no idea where to look.
Could be fraud, dispute or cards team that would have a know where to look. Hopefully you have the old card number to help them.

this, I had this with my next account and by requesting my bank account number and sort code they found money in a suspense account and transferred it to my account.
