To be honest I haven't got a clue about ferry prices, but in my experience "booking tickets" at the last minute can save money as they will reduce the price to fill up empty seats.

However there is no guarantee there will be empty "seat" when you want to travel, so it is a risk.

If I were you I would "go through the motions" of booking the ferry for the same journey at the end of Jan, Feb, Mar and then do it again each week to see if the prices go down the nearer you get to the travel date.

Apart from any discounts from using quidco or cashback credit cards and the like, that's the fare you will get whether you buy it from the ferry company or any of the 'cheap' ferry companies - they are all selling the same product.

The ferry companies tend to have January sales which may continue into February after which prices will rise. They don't tend to rise as often as discount airlines so they may well be then static until near departure date when they will almost certainly rise again. I don't believe the bit about cheap tickets at the last minute - they are more likely to sell them at premium prices to those who 'have to' travel.

Are you going during the day or overnight?

If you go during the day then you could risk booking later but I guess you'll be going over half-term when demand will be higher. If it is a night voyage then you might miss out on a cabin and be stuck with the reclining seats.

try this number I use them ,and they are usually the cheapest, they do all routes

    0845 300 3838

  • They are the only operator that operate that route, so the price is pretty fixed, although I can say as someone who has used it a few times the service is good.

As a tip take a look at the timetable of the brittany website. They use 2 idfferent vessels on that route - one is called the pont aven which is their flagship, and is used for the plymouth to santander route, but does roscof about once a week. Its bigger, and only about 3 years old so has really good facilities, but you may also find that its cheape as they have more capacity to fill on those days.
