ARCHOS Media Player problem with AAC sound files

hi guys my girlfriend has got an Archos 604 WIFI media player and we are having a few probs with it
Basically she wants to move some videos that she has downloaded from youtube onto the media player. Moving them onto it isnt a problem, the problem seems to stem from the fact that the sound is encoded with AAC and it wants us to buy a €19.99 "solution" to the problem
Is there anyway to convert the files from youtube without having the sound in AAC format for free
I know theres plenty of converters out there i just wondered if someone can point us in the right direction

Hi
I think that those files need to be mpg.
If I'm right then you can use Zamzar to convert them online.
And a converter to install is SUPER.

Guys having issues with converting the files on these links, it converts them but when i put them on the archos player its saying that the files are damaged or corrupted but they play fine on the laptop.
In the instructions it says that the media player plays WMV files, how would i convert video files within windows media player to WMV if they are in AVI format at the moment?
cheers guys
