was just thinking about adding extra to the budget to allow for fuel. can anyone tell me how much it costs, and a ballpark figure on how much it costs to fill up a tank (small 2 door little run around)
cheers

Average price at the moment is about $2 a gallon. No idea on how much a tank full is sorry.0

We just came back from California where we drove 800 miles in a midsize car and spent only £60 on petrol to do it.

It costs about $15 to fill a small car, gas is really cheap, but the Americans think it is expensive as they have had some price hikes and grumble like mad about it.0

wow!
how come they get it soo cheap and we pay through the nose?
i've just checked and 1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.7854118 litre (this metric and imperial business baffles me).

Dont know how many gallons were in the tank but we had a v6 3 litre car, and it was right on the red line, and i filled it up for 13 quid.
The reason they converted it to litres here is so we dont see how much per gallon it is.

When you get there you'll be saying that about food, clothes, groceries going out the lot.
From the moment we wake up to when we go back to bed we get stung all day long here, and you can be sure someone is somwhere looking at a way of implementing a sleep tax too.0 -
Petrol or gas prices vary from state to state and forecourt to forecourt. There can be as amuch a $1 difference across the country. Typically it's cheaper in the south.

Just a tip. When you get there have a look at the rental cars, you may find that a 2 door runaround is ordinary. Think about negotiating an upgrade and enjoy the American car scene. Me and the missus went last year ( no kids for a change) Upgraded to a convertable V6. Fantiastic fun !! It was $15 extra per day, but well worth it.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Hi pavlovs dog
i've just returned from a driving holiday in Kentucky / Tennessee & fuel was about $1.85 - $1.99 us gal.
we hired a (tree huggers take collective sharp intake of breath and wail we're doomed, we're doomed) Cadillac Deville 4.7 lt V8 American Big !!!!!! and we had a whale of a time (would you believe air conditioned seats) and before the 'we're all going to die because Murphy drove a big car' brigade start choking on their Tofu & lentil bake it returned over 25 mpg over the 1750 miles we did.
We got the car from https://www.americacarhire.co.uk , for a fortnight incl 3 drivers, a (whopping) free tank of fuel, all of the insurance and unlimited mileage the bill came to £404.00. If you are thinking of upgrading, do so at this end as you will get a better deal - or better still cancel your 2 door compact & book a big un !
MTC
p.s. you'll love America0
