Adding non Uk residents as named drivers to my car insurance

Have anyone had problems with this ?

My daughter and her partner live in Denmark and are residents there but still uk citizens. I have added them to my car insurance policy as named drivers in the past (was advise by admiral at the time cheaper to add as named driver than a temporary driver as they come to the UK frequently )but this year have had conflicting information

I am with Aviva now and they were insured on last years policy. My policy due for renewal, initially told yes they can continue to be named drivers on my policy but spoke to another advisor today and told no.

Sterling insurance quoted a silly amount

Hastings direct has said yes and gave sensible quote verbally but I am sceptical

Can anyone help please?

I think it really does depend on the insurer. My mother's car insurer declined to add my brother to the insurance for a few days, whereas her friend's insurer was happy to add the friend's daughter.

Being resident in UK with an EU driving licence is different to being non resident with an EU licence but visiting.

You need be clear when you ask about cover.

My insurance covered my visiting dil with an EU licence before Brexit but not after.

I know it's confusing and frustrating, agents from the same company are giving me different answers

I think I'll have to find an email address for Hastings and ask them to confirm they will cover . Thank god no accidents occurred in the years since brexit they probably wouldn't have been covered even though I phoned and checked the policies with the companies
