Trading 212
Just spent a fair amount of time going three quarters way through the process of opening a Trading 212 acc ISA , inc. reams of conditions etc, only to find after taking my id selfies, I needed my phone to do a Q scan to get any further because I needed a code from it , and I havent got that smart a phone ! Anyone found they can get the account opened further just by ringing , and/or are they a nightmare to get through to? I cant be the only person online with an older phone, surely. Didnt see any alternative method offered.

Do you mean that your phone camera doesn't have integrated native QR code scanning, and, if so, can you just download a free app to do this?

Careful, someone here did this last week, mistakenly clicked on an ad link in the "free" QR code reader, and ended up entering all sorts of personal data into a site that was nothing whatsoever to do with the 212 application.
Must be a pretty old phone, native QR code reading came in with Android 8 around 2017 (with Google Lens), won't have had security updates since '21. Happy putting finance apps on there?

Yes, good point! OP - what phone model (and vintage) do you have?

Treat yourself to a new phone, for speed, features and as others have said - security.
In the meantime, Trend Micro QR scanner is excellent. No ads, and as it's from an internet security company is more trustworthy.

Thanks folks. No , I wouldnt do financial on my phone, I do everything important on my laptop and theyre not linked . The old Nokia 4.2 does everything else I want. Havent needed Q code reading up til now .Sending just photos I dont mind so much on it when institutions have a way of letting you upload your phone photos, but no I wouldnt be very confident putting on financial figurework . Ill probably ring them tomorrow and just see if they can do an online check like most other institutions do if you have a reasonable amount of presence online with accounts,

While T212 do support website access they are primarily a smart phone app first service, I expect if you were to get pass this issue then you’d be hit with the next one down the line. Best to look for a different broker that matches your needs.
Personally I do everything via a laptop but have a smartphone to deal with the additional security aspects of accesses.

Confirmation from them today. No alternatives and they closed the account attempt . You'd have thought hard copy id s . Surprised the hard copy route wasnt available though . Not a bad idea for them to have put at the beginning of applications that you MUST have the facility to scan Q codes.

I was able to complete verification without installing the app. They use Onfido, which works via a web browser. You could even do it on a PC if you have a webcam.
