Hi I’m with Octopus tracker for both electricity and gas I see the advice to change from variable to fixed deals as soon as possible with the July hike approaching but I’m still not clear if I’m better off in tracker or if I should try to switch back to a fix?
Anyone in that situation also wondering …

Tracker is a gamble and the fix is not. It really is that simple, nobody knows right now.

Do you have spare household income to gamble on tracker and if not fix and know you can afford it.

ML advice has been to change from Price Capped SVR to Fixed, has never mentioned anything about changing from other types of variable tariffs to Fixed.

And nor would he as his message cannot be diluted with other types of tariffs other than Capped and fixed.

To list out every type of households usage and potential add on like solar, batteries and EVs, low and high users, those that are home primarily off peak than on. Where does the list end and how quickly people would turn off his advice for being too technical and confusing.

Got to keep the message dumbed down for everyone.

It's quite simple really, if you want to know what you'll be paying for the next 12 months fix, if you are comfortable with it being variable and that you might be more or less then stick with where you are

Thanks everyone for the replies @Time2Go_25 @TroubledTarts @bristolleedsfan - my tracker tariff ends in August so I will reassess the situation closer to that point I think and will be able to see what one month on the raised price cap has done to my usage/bill. But I think ML latest advice on the Octopus tariffs is I could change to their fixed price deal when the time comes to change tariff and then revert back to tracker 9 months later I think
