It isn't often people "win" with tax, you are up £213.33 in cash, but you also have 3 months more tax than you had before the process so £263.33 effectively.

I received the new V5 with the "Expensive Car Supplement" note removed but there's no sign of an automatic refund.

I managed to balls things up on two levels: I bought the car on 31/3/26 and paid for a year's VED at the "old" rate. What a clown. 🤡😄🙈

There is no automatic feund.

There is a post above which explains you have to SORN your car to get a refund of the remaining tax already paid and then tax it at the new rate.

That was my understanding (and what I'm going to do).

My reply was to @born_again who I thought was saying in his reply to @moneysavy2 that DVLA would be issuing automatic refunds.

I SORN'd the car on 29/4/26. Five days later (it was over a Bank Holiday weekend, though), I was able to re-tax it at the new rate. About a week after that, the refund cheque for £516.66 arrived.
