New Windows - clean from inside?

Hey everyone,

We need to replace the windows at the front of the house and the back upstairs only. I seem to remember seeing some windows on social media (some cleaning tips type thing) where you could open the window sort of the other way! - so the outside facing part opened into your room - allowing you to clean it. With a house with no side access that would be really useful for us!

However, after using Google search and Gemini I'm not able to find exactly what I'm looking for! - I think I'm describing it wrong!

Any help much appreciated!

It was just a 'normal' casement window in this video, I think the bloke flipped or clipped something sort of where you usually have the window restricted. I remember looking at ours afterwards and finding they didn't have such a feature.

To be clear I'm not talking about the turn and tilt style.

Cheers!

  • Our windows open normally BUT the pivot point is not a hinge fixed to the frame ,ours open and the fixed part moves along the window frame so that when fully opened you can reach both sides from in the room.

Yeah that sort of sounds like what I want. Just hoping to be able to explain it crystal clear so the window bloke puts it in his spec. Our track record with windows and doors isn't overly successful - incorrect measurements, spec not as discussed (and documented!) so wanting to try my best to avoid issues this time!

Easy clean hinges are ok for that opening window but depending on the window frame design you get if the glass unit next to is fixed and large it will not be that easy to clean as you have to hang out the window frame to clean it.

My bedroom window has an opener next to a fixed unit that is 1300mm long and I have to have 1 leg hanging outside and sit on the frame/window s cill to reach the end of the glass. It is over a conservatory so can't get access to it .

I agree. I can clean the outside of my windows from inside but I still need a step ladder and some physical flexibility to reach the whole of the window glass. I'm slim, fairly fit and able to do it but I know lots who wouldn't stand a chance at managing it. Perhaps a traditional window cleaner could be your answer.

It's basically three windows and three fan lights on a bedroom - would guess 150-180cm total width. So opening the middle one I can easily clean the fixed pane, and the pane to the left. And the fan lights. Just can't quite get to the middle one!

Yeah, I know a window cleaner may be the best route, but coming through the house is a bit of a pain to put it mildly! - Well, to the point we've not bothered since we moved in lol, 4.5 years. (tbf the windows are a bit knackered, so the gone glass is more what you notice).

I just figure with a new install I have a chance to be able to clean them!

Cheers. In some of these cases the windows are the double open wide business - which I think is the egress sort. Those hinges look useful.

Whilst I know tilt and turn aren't what we're looking for, they certainly are convenient - my wife had them in her new build flat - was so easy to clean the windows!!

We have the type mentioned in Molerats post and find them very easy to use, once locked on the latch.

One thing to watch out for is no children allowed near while you have the latch off, it can be too easy to get distracted if phone or door goes.
