Damp proofing single brick wall

Hello,

As part of the garage conversion, I am construction a stud wall about 50 mm away from the single brick wall . After researching online, I will be damp proofing the single brick wall with KA tanking slurry (https://www.diy.com/departments/ka-tanking-slurry-25kg-tub-grey-water-proofing-damp-proofing-for-concrete-and-masonry/5060718518537_BQ.prd) before building the stud wall.

There is a existing cement render about 5 mm thickness. Again my researching online mentioned that it is better to remove the render and damp-proofing it .

Need some advice regarding the same. Attaching some pics. (existing stud wall was built temporarily by the builders)
