eBay, Royal Mail & 25kg parcels

Asking for relative as I've not sold on eBay for years.

They say that they've had a nightmare with posting a 25kg parcel as it was to go through Royal Mail.

I asked why on earth they chose that rather than a courier, especially after they recently had issue on similar lines & said they weren't going to use RM.

They said that they've chosen a "simple delivery" or whatever eBay call it and they (eBay) choose who the prepaid label is for - which was Royal Mail in this case.

This was never an issue when I last sold an item on eBay. I just picked 'other courier', got a price from Parcel2Go based on dimensions & weight & that was it. If I didn't want RM to be an option then it wasn't.

What do they need to be doing to rule out RM as an option for bulky/heavy items because whatever it is they're clearly not getting it & I'm not selling anything so as to go through the motions to see whatever screens they're seeing.

Maximum for Royal Mail via Simple Delivery is 20kg.

When they List the item they need to choose either custom postage' or 'oversize' item.

Then you can choose your own delivery service (although I still think royal mail have a 20kg limit)

When listing an item ebay (ai) will suggest a size and weight, which you can override. If ebay underestimate the weight and cost you are protected, as long as the parcel is within the limits the courier will accept. Unfortunately royal mail have a weight limit of 20kg so won't accept it. The item needs to be relisted with an accurate weight.

I have had this a lot recently since the switch to SD. Often when I have overridden it, it's then defaulted back at the label purchase stage.
