G-Clamp what the?
I doubt there's any point me posting this, since it's clearly beyond any technical explanation, but hey.
I have this G-Clamp, size 4, good ol' Record make. But, this one has an added serrated thumb wheel which I haven't seen before.
The clamping screw goes through this captive thumb wheel just as it goes through the clamp body, but - here's the weird bit - the wheel turns at the same rate as the screw, and the screw still passes through to tighten and release the clamp as it should!
Bonkers. Doesn't make sense. Anyone want to try addressing this? Careful it doesn't give you the headache.

Does it lock it tight once you have clamped it on?

From the video, it looks like there's a groove cut in the thread? This must be how the spinner can turn the clamp without engaging in the thread.

Yes, the ones I've seen the spinner isn't threaded, it just has a nib which engages in a slot cut along the thread. The sole purpose is to be able to spin the clamp up or down to the right position to lightly hold the workpiece. Without it, getting the clamp to the right position is a two-handed job, leaving no hand free to manipulate the workpiece.

That's what I'd assumed, but it didn't.
I see an explanation has been found.

There is indeed.
Thanks for the info, folks - better than AI.
(Still don't quite understand how it adjusts the screw without being beholden to it.)

The spinner isn't threaded, the centre is bored larger than the thread diameter. It has a lug that engages in the slot in the thread, and turns the screw in the body of the clamp.
The threaded part simply slips through the cente of the spinner.
