Council tax reduction

Hi,

I'm a lone parent of severely autistic child. My son is 16 and has been awarded enhanced PIP recently. Do I need to tell council about it? I'm on UC and been receiving CTR anyways.

Thanks.

Def tell them and explore what options they have, not all councils operate the same way. Are you getting a single person discount?

No need to tell them, members of the household aren't even counted for council tax purposes so will not impact what you pay at all.

Tell them you never know; it may help you out in other ways. If you haven't already, you can now claim the Carer’s Element of UC because he receives a qualifying disability benefit.

If you contact them remember to send all paperwork regardless if you've just submitted it. Or visit in person.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll email them with my son's PIP award letter. Whether it makes any difference or not, I guess it's depending on my council.

    Under 18s aren't . But, over 18s are.

Living with my parents, my local council wanted to know my income despite not being named on the council tax bill when they applied for a reduction because they were claiming Pension Credit
