Hi

My friends mum has had her driving licence details stolen by online scammers

Obvious question this I guess , if you report it stolen and get a replacement is it not identical to the original ie once they have your details it makes no difference

Thanks

Well, the number on the card changes, and if someone is doing a digital check on the old card, they'll know it's cancelled. Problem is a lot of places probably don't check, just accept it and file 🤔

I thought the number stays the same ie your name and DOB combined etc

That's my belief too. They aren't like bank cards which have a new number every time the card is replaced.

The three digits at the end aren't formed from name/DoB so could be changed.

As above though it depends what fraudulent use is involved - if it's just being waved at somebody else as a photo ID I wouldn't normally expect the number to be checked.

It's unlikely that online fraudsters would be using a stolen drivers license as a random piece of photo id though - for starters, the person carrying it would have to look at least vaguely like the OP's friend's mother, and there are easier ways to get fake ID.

The main licence number doesn't change - but there is a space after it and then a couple of additional numbers which give the issue number.

eg the number 09 would indicate that over their driving lifetime 9 licences have been issued to that particular person for changes of address or name or lost/destroyed.
