5 Year Fixed - 60 Months to Financial Stability.........Hopefully!

Good day fellow DFWer's,

Serial diary starter here, I know it's annoying, but in my ADHD brain I've had some changes so I need to start from scratch.

I've just started on a new 5 year fixed mortgage so I'm going to set myself some goals over this period to get myself on track with my finances, home, weight and try to get some savings in the bank.

I really really really want to be financially stable by the time my 5 year fixed mortgage ends and the main plan is to pay the mortgage in full over this period.

Now I was debt free in June 2025 but unfortunately my car which has been nothing but a money pit has finally given up so I've had to get rid of it and with no savings I'm going to need to pay for the car on a credit card.

I've got 3 CC's at the moment, all with zero balances so my plan is to use the Tesco CC to buy the car, get as many clubcard points if I can, then transfer the balance to my Natwest CC which has a current offer of 0% for 21 months.

I've got some money here to put towards the car which is good but nowhere near the total I need.

I'm just waiting on the guy calling me, the car is getting a new catalytic converter, a service, MOT and a valet. So it will be all shiny when I'm able to pick it up. It's going to be next week though so my friend is lending me her car as she's just had an operation and isn't able to drive right now.

So in the next few days I'm going to be back with the plan to be debt free once more!

    Today I need to;

    • Get a quote for temporary car insurance so I can use friends car
    • Let DVLA know that I have ditched Shelby the Suzuki
    • Delete some stuff from my Google account

Working from home today so I'll get those sorted in between work.

Nephew is coming to stay tonight as sibling is going to a gig so he'll be getting dropped off at some point just waiting on them letting me know. She didn't tell me until last week so I've not been able to get a day off so he'll just chill here while I'm working. Would have been nice to get out and do something with him but also the whole car situation has meant that money is much tighter than usual so probably for the best that we're staying in.

This is a whopping list. You will feel fantastic if you achieve this in the next 5 years. Well I would!

Can get the car insured for 2 weeks for £71.99.

Tried to update the DVLA but it's not recognising the V5C so I've had to email We Buy Any Car to see if they've updated it at their end.

So just as well I didn't get the temporary car insurance cos my friend now needs her own car next week.

I've had a look and if need be I can hire a car for a week for around the same price as the insurance so all good.

I'll see if I can survive without.

Trying to be patient and not call the car guy every day but I just need to know what is going on.

Feel like everything money wise is on hold at the moment and it will be until I get the car.

    I'm stuck!

How frustrating! But at least you found out before purchasing the insurance. Do you have any other transport options (bus/cycle) available to you? Sorry if you’ve mentioned this and I’ve missed it.

Yeah I do have options but I need to get back to my dog walking and for that I need a car. I've had a look and I can hire one for about a week for the same price as the temporary insurance so might just do that.

Shipped my nephew home so just me and the dogs which is just how I like it.

Our last walk was lovely tonight, seen some little calves running around and some beautiful flowers. Spring is in the air - well I say that I got absolutely soaked with rain and hail for the last 15 minutes!

Home with the heating on and finishing up work.
