Well if they are not based at a railway station or an airport, they have no costs at all, as they sold all their High St stores last year. Now rebranded as TG Jones, although some have closed altogether.

Years ago I worked for a major high street retailer and a customer challenged me on the price of an item which he considered to be too expensive. I explained it was in line with what competitors charge. He responded with "but I bet they don't cost you that much to make!". I said "of course not, like every business we aim to sell things for a profit"

He was totally befuddled by the concept

Hopefully you did not tell him that a standard retail mark up is 100% !

I used to be a manager in a chain retail store, we were told to add extra cash on to a item that was popular, if it slowed sales down a lot, reduce it again a little at a time to still sell it more expensive than our head office stated sell price, it did mean our stores could all have the same products at different prices

I stopped eating them when they changed something to coffee flavour. I dont like coffee😿
