HyperJar Outage 7th April

We've been using HyperJar for my son for years now, and it's been great. He's used it in Ireland and for spending when on school trips and out with friends. Until today, when he tried to pay for lunch at KFC with his friends and his transaction was reversed 3 times, then declined, even though he had plenty of funds available. My wife and I got notifications each time he tried to pay. We then had a distressed child calling who couldn't pay for lunch and we had to drive into town to deliver cash, not ideal. I contacted HyperJar support using the app 'agent' and was put in a queue of 64…that told me that there was something going on. About that time I spotted a pop up in the HyperJar app saying they were having issues with some payments.

I also contacted them online and they emailed be back after a few hours to ask for details. Fair play for reaching out in person. I sent over the screenshot of the transactions and checked the app which was by then showing 3 reversed and 1 declined transaction.

They emailed back to say…

We are pleased to inform you that the recent outage has now been fully resolved. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disruption this may have caused to your work.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Our team has worked diligently to ensure services are restored and stable, and we remain committed to preventing such issues in the future.

Not sure my son was pleased. Needless to say we are looking at switching to a different bank and ensuring he always has some cash.

Did anyone experience issues today around 1pm, and what was the outcome?

All banks have had 'glitches' at one time or another so, to be fair, it could happen with any bank.

If it's otherwise been fine then not quite sure why it's 'needless to say' you will be switching.

I've not had any outages with FirstDirect or Tescobank in all the years using them. lInterestingly HyperJar admitted this affected all their customers.

I wanted to follow up to let you know that this was due to a temporary outage which affected all HyperJar users at the time, not just your son’s account. That said, we fully recognise the impact this had and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.
