Amazon postage refund

Just checking if this is right…

I bought a robot hoover last July and it became faulty at the end of March. Amazon agreed to refund me.

I had to pay return postage (outside the return window), and I emailed proof of postage the same day I sent it back. They said they’d refund it.

I contacted them today as I'd had no correspondence since the end of March, they've said the postage can only be refunded as a gift card balance.

I asked for the postage refund to go back to my card, but was told that’s not possible.

It was only £12 but it's got me thinking.

Is that correct?

Probably not, but then you're probably not entitled to a full refund either given you had 9 months' use out of it.

Are you saying the OP probably isn't entitled to a refund of the return postage at all, or that Amazon are entitled to refund it only to a gift card?

I'm not sure either is correct. (Assuming amazon accepted it was returned because it was faulty)

"Probably not" is in answer to the OP's question "is that correct".

I'm saying they're entitled to a (cash) refund, but that may be outweighed by the lack of any deduction from the price of the item.

I'd view a £12 Amazon gift balance as being worth pretty much £12 anyway.

Is it a battle worth fighting if you use Amazon, for the sake of £12 that can be spent on anything Amazon sell?

Sorry - I misread the OP's question to be was he correct that amazon couldn't refund to a gift card.
