They are different and you can claim a budgeting advance while having an outstanding new claim advance.

@Robbie64 Thankyou . Do you know if there is a maximum amount I can apply for?

    How much you can borrow

The smallest budgeting advance you can get is £100.

The maximum depends on if you’re single or in a couple, or if you’re responsible for any children. This includes children aged under 16 and any ‘qualifying young people’.

Someone counts as a qualifying young person up to 31 August after their 19th birthday, if they’re in non-advanced education - for example, school or college.

Depending on these circumstances, you can borrow up to:

    • £348 if you're single without children
    • £464 if you're in a couple without children
    • £812 if you're responsible for any children or qualifying young people

If you have more than £1,000 in capital

Capital includes any savings, and some types of property.

If you have more than £1,000 in capital, the Jobcentre will reduce your budgeting advance by the excess amount.

For example, if you have £1,250 in capital, the Jobcentre will reduce your budgeting advance by £250.
