True Potential Investments

I have received a random email from True Potential Investments - the address it comes from is: sqlmail@tpllp.com and asks me to log onto TP Investor account. I didn't know I had one!!

I don't trust IFAs (after a first poor experience 25 years ago) and AFAIK have had no dealings with them. I've had a quick Google to see if the company has taken over any providers I may have used and come up with nothing.

Has anyone experienced similar? Can I be satisfied this is spam mail?

If in doubt, mark as spam and delete. I sounds like spam to me.

Exactly the advice I would give to a third party - I just didn't want to put my investments at risk either way.

I'm with True Potential and that appears to be the genuine email address from which notifications come from. It could still be spam however.

Hover over and look at the link in the email and it will tell you where it goes to.

If they have managed to use TP's email domain and the email hasn't been marked as spam by your email provider there's a good chance it's legitimately from TP.

Now why TP have emailed you if you aren't a customer is a different question.

Exactly this, do they not give a reason why they would like you to log into their system?

The message I received was this, no hyperlink:

    Dear xxxxxxxxxxx

You have received a secure message from the True Potential Investor Support Team.

To view this message login to your TP Investor account

    Kind Regards,

This is an un-manned mailbox. please don’t reply to this email.

I have no knowledge of any such account but interestingly, my email account retains a memory of the following address: noreply@truepotential.co.uk . It will just have to remain one of life's great unsolved mysteries!

Curiosity got the better of me and I went to the TP's live chat function. I am assured by the following message that popped up after sticking my contact details in:

We could not find an account associated with that account.

Given the date (first day of the new tax year) I suspect you do or did have something with them and somehow you just don't know it.

Why use the live chat when you could presumably login and read the message?

Whatever it is about investing platforms don't usually send secure messages to random people who aren't and never were customers.

Presumably because if OP doesn’t think they have an account with True Potential, they also won’t have any log in details🤔

Then try the "Forgot Password" option when logging in.

If that doesn't work call them tomorrow.

You almost certainly won't get that sort of email as a scam or spam though.
