I want a bit in bonds and equity. The idea of the bonds is to de risk a bit. I want a bit of UK bias, but I think I am just out of kilter.

thats why I want some elements of bonds as protection hopefully LS80 gives this?

Thanks that is also a key question is my current approach muddled? I am just not sure

If you can define what sort of split you want between equities and bonds, and also how much of a UK bias you're after, that'll lead you towards answers - if your requirements happen to map onto the breakdown of one of the VLS range (or a multi-asset fund from one of their competitors) then that would be a simple single-fund solution, but if not then you could use core and satellite holdings to tweak the allocations.

What is balance? There are many ways to weight a market and there are plenty of other assets than just stocks and bonds. If I recall the futures market is worth several times the stock market. Then there's the private equity, property, resources, precious metals and so on.

With 15 years to go till retirement I’d be 100% in equities.

I am less than that and have 100% in equities. Yes, it bounces all over the place, but as I am not reliant on the VLS100 proceeds alone for retirement, I am happy to go along with it.

You can obviously do whatever you want yourself, but the number of people using ChatGPT for things it isn't suitable for - like assessing investment fund strategies - and then blindly believing the output is incredibly depressing and shouldn't be being recommended...
